Does your wardrobe need a bit of freshening up for the warmer weather ahead? Here’s an opportunity to get some new Spring apparel and support a wonderful organization at the same time! Artwear on Mass. Ave. in Arlington, MA will give 40% of what you spend to the Livingston Pangburn Transgender Access Partnership (TAP) when you shop there, so that ALL transgender young people can have good access to the services and support that they need. Bring your friends along, and head over to Artwear on March 26th!
TAP is a Greater Boston PFLAG initiative that was created in memory of Livingston Pangburn, a transgender Hampshire College student who was killed in a bicycle accident in 2013. TAP seeks to both increase services available and reach out to underserved, disenfranchised transgender youth and their families.
Community-Kinship-Life is opening their next round of trans surgery scholarship applications on January 1, 2014! If anyone you know might benefit from this scholarship program, please pass on the information. There has been a change in Scholarship fund deadlines, so check out the CK Life Web site for the most up-to-date information.
Starting this week, the “Love Ourselves, Love Our Bodies Just As We Are” campaign is moving to a weekly posting schedule, which will continue through the end of 2013. New campaign posts will be published on Wednesdays on the BodyImage4Justice Web site and on the organization’s Facebook page.
We are still seeking new contributions of writing and video for this campaign, especially from youth and elders in the trans and LGBTQ community. We particularly want to include the voices of trans women in this campaign. For more information about how to submit a story or video to the campaign, please visit the “Love Ourselves, Love Our Bodies Just As We Are” Campaign page.
Thanks to the generosity of our business sponsor, Ferris Wheels Bike Shop, and four very kind donors, BodyImage4Justice is raffling off this brand new bike at our event, BodyImage, Self Love and Movement: A Dinner to Build and Sculpt this Thursday evening, October 24, 2013. Raffle tickets are available at the door, and the winning ticket will be drawn at the end of the event. All event attendees are eligible to enter, and you must be present at the raffle drawing in order to win.
Raffle tickets will go on sale at the start of the event. Tickets are $5 each, 3 for $10, and 6 for $15. The bike is valued at $350-$400, and raffle proceeds will go to support BodyImage4Justice’s Gym Membership Fund, which provides memberships at Mike’s Fitness in Jamaica Plain, MA for low-income LGBTQ people in the Boston area.
Please come out and join us for this event, and enjoy an evening of movement workshops, dinner, and an informative presentation. Good luck to all raffle contest entrants, and thank you for your support!
